Student privacy and technology guide

Your child’s privacy matters.

Their education is personal. Their information should stay that way. This guide explains how Stonepine uses technology, how your child’s information is handled, and what makes our approach to AI different.

What Stonepine knows about your child

A learning plan is only as good as what it is built on. To plan and teach well, Stonepine works from the profile you create: your child’s age and grade level, their current knowledge, their interests and goals, any learning needs, and your family’s educational approach. As your child learns, Stonepine also keeps the record of what they have practised and demonstrated, so the plan can respond to real understanding.

That information exists to shape your child’s education. It is not collected to build a profile for any other purpose.

How Stonepine uses technology

Technology should support the learning, not become it. Software provides the structure: the curriculum, the lesson plans, the schedule, and the record of progress. Where a tool helps, such as drafting a lesson around an interest or organizing a week, it steps forward. Where it does not, it stays out of the way.

The learning itself still happens at the table, in the garden, and in a good book, with you.

What makes our approach to AI different

Many educational products send student information to outside AI services to generate content. Stonepine does not. Sensitive educational features run on open-weight models that we host ourselves, on dedicated infrastructure. Student data is not sent to third-party AI model providers.

That choice costs more and takes more care. We think a child’s learning record is worth it.

What you control

  • Review and edit your child’s profile, interests, and goals whenever you like.
  • Add or remove learners from your family space at any time.
  • Invite the people who help teach your child, and decide what they can see.
  • Ask us anything about how information is handled, and expect a plain answer.
